Pennsylvania Wool and Cotton Penny Rug
Early to mid-20th Century. The top of the rug consists of a red cotton background sewn onto an earlier heavy striped rag rug backing. The top has 3 1/4'' diameter gray and black wool applied penny designs accented with pink, yellow and dark blue wool. The backing shows substantial wear while the top of the rug shows almost no wear, indicating the reuse of an old rug for backing. Measures 41'' x 21 1/2''.

Cat's Tongue Table Rug
A table rug, Cat's Tongue pattern, a variation of the Penny Rug. Late 19th or early 20th century made of woolen suiting material and felt. Rug measures 35 1/2'' x 23''. Some minor disintegration of woolen binding stitches on edging. The top is basted on to an old rag rug, which was customary at the time.
